DPF Solutions
What is a DPF and what does it do?
A DPF or Diesel Particulate Filter, is a device located in the exhaust designed to capture and trap harmful soot particles from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine and prevent it from being dispersed into the atmosphere. The soot particles build up over time and the DPF is designed to self-clean or burn off soot through a process called regeneration.
If the DPF is blocked, then vehicle is unable to carry out a self-cleaning regeneration or it can’t do a regeneration quickly enough due to excess soot entering the system. A blocked DPF will inhibit the flow of exhaust gases resulting in lack of performance and fuel efficiency.
Symptoms of a blocked DPF
- Your DPF warning light is on
- Lack of performance or low on power
- Excess fuel consumption
- Starting issues
- Smoke or smell from exhaust
What to do if you experience one or more of these symptoms:
At Adam Auto Solutions we can assess the health of your DPF regardless of there being an issue or not, you don’t have to wait for symptoms to appear. If you are experiencing symptoms, firstly, we carry out a specialised DPF Assessment. We invest hours of time in DPF training to access the most professional and experienced DPF diagnostic procedures to save vehicle owners time and money and get them back on the road sooner.
Poor performance tunes can lead to DPF issues. We can assess this and either give you a correct, safe tune or return your vehicle to standard.
Can you delete or remove your DPF
It is illegal to delete or remove your DPF. It voids any manufactures warranty and may impact any insurance claims. Your vehicle is manufactured with a DPF system to comply with Australian Design Rules and their emission requirements. It’s designed to self-clean. If the DPF is not self-cleaning or regenerating, it means there is an underlying fault that needs to be addressed.
